History of the Pillowcase Dress

The Pillowcase Dress

While doing research on the pillowcase dress, I learned that this style has been around for 100 plus years. These dresses were simple and inexpensive for families to dress their daughter sduring difficult economic times. The pillowcase dress was made from potato sacks, old linens, and of course the pillowcase. It would have been wasteful to throw away a perfectly fine pillowcase even if the match was unusable.  And though my research was difficult when it came to exact origin and dates, it was definitely clear this dresses, through testimonials and pictures from history,  are an American staple in fashion.

But onto today’s pillowcase dresses, they are adorable, made for different seasons, and a staple because they grow with your child.

I am too excited to let you all know I will selling a collection of pillowcase dresses this June and I want you to stay tuned because I will also be having a giveaway!

Yes! You or a lucky friend will have a chance to win a pillowcase dress that can be worn by your daughter, niece, or friend’s daughter. The dress will be posted on http://www.facebook.com/people/MiaMingles-Bobbie-Wraight/100001762941996 and http://www.miamingles.blogspot.com on March 14th 2011 and it will be given away on April 15th 2011!

Here is a pillowcase dress I made for my daughter’s 5th birthday. It was a Fancy Nancy party. Her birthday is in January so with a turtle neck and some tights this dress was ready for the cold weather. Some dresses are made from corduroy and flannel for the winter months but with spring and summer (hopefully) around the corner, 98% of my dresses will be made for warmer months.

I did add ruffles to the bottom of this dress but for some reason I am missing the picture, sorry :)
This dress is not the one for the giveaway.

Ahhh

So, the closet is clean and has stayed clean for a couple days now! It is like a cleansing. I am super excited. Now, I have room for the pillow case dresses I will be making for a craft show this summer.
This week we are working getting Valentines ready for both my kids. They are in pre-k at different schools. This makes it a exciting time for them but difficult for me because I have to be as equal as possible.

Check out www.familyfun.com for some Valentines ideas. This is one of my favorite websites. I have found recipes, crafts, games, cakes, and much more.

As embarrassing as it is I am posted pictures of my closet before and after!
Also try to donate your extras to local charities, this is a great way to support your community!

                                                                   UMM Scary!
Nice and clean BUT I have a small house and have to put my projects somewhere:)

This Works!
